I think it’s safe to say the scanners we use are modern technology so without them I wouldn’t even have a job.

As for the Internet, any engineer that says they don’t use it is probably lying.

In theory I could do my job without the internet. It would just take ages to find the information that I need. Other modern technology like powerful computers, motors, cameras and sensors are vital for what we do in our laboratory. Without them we couldn’t do half of the things we do now.

People were using robots decades ago and even for surgery. So some things were possible. In my job we tend to be waiting for the technology to catch up with our ideas, which means we always want and need the most up to date equipment.

If I didn’t have the internet to distract me, I’m also sure that I would get a lot more done in my spare time!

We could. The scientists and engineers of the old days managed and they made ground breaking discoveries but unless there’s something really unique to discover now, it’s nearly impossible to not rely on modern technology and the Internet. 3d printing for example makes complex parts really quick instead of waiting for custom built parts to be built. Also, most of the software we use now relies on access to the Internet.

I probably couldn’t, no. It would be difficult to imagine trying to produce vey complex surgical devices without the high-tech medical scanning technologies, computer design software and manufacturing technologies we have today. I also rely a lot on internet data transfer to receive/send files across the world.
