The internet! All the research wouldn’t be done as quickly as it’s happening now. I’d have to go to a library and hope the book I want is there instead of finding the material online. We can’t order items and receive them the next day. We can’t even watch YouTube videos or use Wikipedia and I’m an Engineer wouldn’t exist…imagine life without that!

The internet is both one of the best and worst inventions. I’d like to think life would be better without it, but in reality, it would be hard to imagine it now. The wheel is of course a pretty fundamental one. I’d love to have come up with that idea 😉 For me, it’s got to be something pretty closely related to the wheel – the bike. It remains the most efficient means of transportation, is fantastic fun and the fundamental design hasn’t changed much since it was first invented.

I would go with the steam engine or the wheel. Both have had huge effects on our improvement even though we take them for granted now. Without the wheel where would we be?! The steam engine enabled people to travel around and also changed the way that we made things and factories worked for ever.

There are so many interesting answers to this question though. Maybe a telescope as that allowed us to observe the universe an understand gravity etc. Maybe sewers so that we could get rid of our waste and the diseases that killed so many people before.

Faraday and Tesla’s experiments with electricity were absolutely vital to the modern life we know so well now.

Try to imagine a world without electricity…. you’d have to write me a letter to let me know.
