When I was working on my doctorate, I designed and developed a material for heart valves that can be put in the heart without surgery. There’s a lot of interest at the moment about valves that don’t need open heart surgery. That means old people who are too frail can get a valve instead of going under the knife.

I’m now working on a heart valve for children as they have different needs to adults but there aren’t many valves in the market that can help them.
