This is a challenging one! At the moment, as a happy and pretty healthy person, I am would be pro-euthanasia given strict ethical protocols. It’s difficult to imagine how I’d view it if I or a loved one got to a stage where it was a possibility. The only analogy I have now is my dog, who’s reached a time where he’s not well enough to enjoy his life at all. I’m considering the best option for him, although I’ll miss him greatly if that turns out to be putting him down.

I know it is a hard topic to discuss but I am pro-euthanasia. If I got to the stage in my life (health-wise) where I am not well enough to normally function or enjoy life at all, then I would like to have a choice.

As the others said, this is a hard topic but still an important one. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be for someone to go through a lot of pain and not have that choice. I think I’m for euthanasia, but I believe the ethical issues need to be discussed and handled very carefully to make sure people don’t abuse it.

At the moment I can’t make up my mind. I have strong opinions for and against euthanasia and they tend to balance each other out.

I’m sure that in some cases euthanasia is the right choice for individuals. It is very difficult to make laws that protect people but also allow others to have the choice to end their life.

Medical ethics are controversial and very interesting. Sometimes the obvious answer is not correct and there are experts who will argue with each other about the rights and wrongs of euthanasia.

I think laws should be cautious until those that understand the issues – doctors, patients, ethicists etc. – can come to a consensus. That may take many, many years still.

I’m generally in favour of people being in control of their own life choices so from that standpoint I’m pro-euthanasia. We as a society if we are to go down this road must make sure that is what the patient truly wants and is capable of making that decision rationally and without pressure.
